A renowned global leader in electrical testing solutions, sought to expand its market reach by localizing its product literature and websites into Czech and Slovak languages.
Dissatisfied with the results from a previous collaboration with a large global translation agency. The client faced challenges including subpar translation quality, lack of technical expertise among linguists, inefficient review processes, and prolonged turnaround times. Our job was to eliminate these problems and deliver top-quality translations without almost any effort from the client. Sounds easy, but it´s not. How we achieved it?
The Team: A substance of the effort
First of all, we formed a specialized team consisting of a project manager with experience in managing multilingual projects in the electrical engineering field, a language engineer with an expert background and education in this field, editors, translators, and DTP operators, all of whom have education and/or prior significant experience in the field.
The Process: Important part of the management
We established a comprehensive process for each job, starting with an initial analysis where we identified the possibilities of using translation tools and compliance with translation memories. As the source documents were not prepared for processing with translation tools, we moved on to the next phase, where we prepared them for such use.
The Analysis: Unlocking the potential of the project
The next step was content analysis and preparation of the documents for translation by the language engineer. This was the point where we made important decisions on how to proceed with the project, ensuring quality, cost-effectiveness, and meeting the deadline.
Then we proceeded with translation and revision, followed by typesetting and proofreading. During the process, we defined the points at which we consulted with the client regarding any ambiguities and other issues. We defined the procedure to address these ambiguities at once or in batches and not involve the client with questions daily.
After completing the work, we sent the product to the client for inspection.
Thanks to the implementation of this process, the client received an excellent translation, and the text was ready for further publication after DTP work. We minimized the time and costs required for translation checking and consultation, reducing the client’s costs and time needs so that they could concentrate more on their core business and the clients’ needs.
Summary
We were on a mission to provide excellent service to our customer, a respected worldwide provider of electrical testing solutions. As a part of their market expansion strategy, they needed their product literature and websites to be translated into Czech and Slovak languages. However, we encountered these challenges along the way.
- Quality Issues: Translations lacked technical accuracy and context comprehension due to linguists’ lack of background in electrical engineering.
- Review Process: The client was burdened with reviewing raw translations and faced difficulties due to messy review processes within translation tools.
- Time Constraints: The entire process consumed excessive time, impacting the client’s operational efficiency and market responsiveness.
Solution Provided: To address client’s challenges and elevate the quality and efficiency of their localization efforts, Cronica devised a comprehensive strategy:
- Dedicated Team Formation: We assembled a specialized team comprising a project manager with extensive experience in multilingual projects within electrical engineering, a language engineer possessing expert knowledge in the field, seasoned translators, an editor, and a DTP (Desktop Publishing) operator.
- Optimized Process Design: Our tailored process began with a meticulous analysis of each project, identifying opportunities for leveraging translation tools and memories to streamline the workflow and minimize costs. We then prepared the source documents for compatibility with translation tools, ensuring seamless integration into our workflow.
- Content Analysis and Preparation: The language engineer conducted a thorough content analysis, preparing the documents for translation while ensuring accuracy in terminology and context.
- Translation and Revision: Our team of translators, well-versed in electrical engineering, carried out translations with precision and attention to detail. Each translation underwent rigorous revision to maintain consistency and quality.
- Typesetting and Proofreading: Following translation, our DTP operator handled typesetting, ensuring the translated text aligned seamlessly with the design of product literature and websites. A final round of proofreading ensured error-free deliverables.
- Client Consultation and Inspection: Throughout the process, we maintained open communication with the client, consulting on any ambiguities or issues as they arose. We structured consultations to minimize disruption to the client’s workflow and provided consolidated updates to ensure efficient decision-making. Upon completion, the translated products underwent thorough inspection by the client before final delivery.
Results Achieved: By implementing our refined process and leveraging our specialized team’s expertise, we delivered outstanding translations to the client, exceeding their expectations. The translated texts were not only accurate and contextually relevant but also ready for immediate publication after minimal review. Our streamlined approach significantly reduced the time and costs associated with translation checking and consultation, enabling the client to focus more resources on their core business and customer needs.
Conclusion: Through collaboration and a commitment to excellence, our translation agency successfully addressed the client’s localization challenges, delivering top-quality translations with minimal client effort. By prioritizing technical expertise, optimizing processes, and fostering effective communication, we not only met but surpassed the client’s expectations, laying the foundation for a fruitful and enduring partnership.
